Executive Director, President and Chief Executive Officer
Doug has been President and Chief Executive Officer since September 2006 and became a director in October 2006. Prior to joining HeartWare, Doug served in various executive and managerial positions at Boston Scientific Corporation, where he had been employed since 1990, including as a member of Boston Scientific’s Operating Committee and as President, Vascular Surgery since January 2005. Prior to that, Doug spent five years as Vice President, Business Development, at Boston Scientific, where he focused on acquisition strategies for the cardiology, electrophysiology, neuroradiology and vascular surgery divisions. Doug has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Lafayette College and a Masters of Business Administration from Northeastern University.
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Larry joined HeartWare in March 2011 as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. Larry has overall responsibility for the Company’s legal and compliance functions. Between 1993 and 2010, Larry served in a variety of legal positions at Boston Scientific Corporation. From 2007, Larry was Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, from 1994, Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, and from 1993, Assistant General Counsel. Previously, Larry was a corporate associate at the Boston law firms of Bingham McCutchen, LLP and Gaston & Snow. Larry received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Political Science from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is admitted to the Bar in Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut and passed the Certified Public Accountant examination in Connecticut.
Executive Vice President, Chief Scientific Officer
Jeff serves as HeartWare’s Chief Scientific Officer and has been with the Company since its inception. Dating back to April 1999, he was involved in the development of HeartWare’s technology through his employment with Kriton Medical, which HeartWare acquired in 2003. Jeff is responsible for all aspects of the design and physiological controls for HeartWare’s left ventricular assist device, the HeartWare Ventricular Assist System, and leads the development of our miniaturization technology. Jeff has twenty years of experience in hydraulic technology development including roles with AEA Technology Engineering Software and Babcock and Wilcox. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron (OH).
Katrin Leadley, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer
Katrin joined HeartWare in September 2014 as our Chief Medical Officer, and is responsible for all medical, clinical and regulatory affairs, including the design and execution of HeartWare’s clinical trial program. Prior to joining HeartWare, Katrin was Chief Medical Officer at JenaValve Technology in Munich, Germany, where she led the company’s clinical, regulatory, scientific and medical activities beginning in 2011.
Previously, Katrin spent eight years from 2003 to 2011 at Boston Scientific Corporation, a global medical device company, where she held a variety of leadership positions based in San Jose, California and Munich, Germany. Most recently, she served as Global Senior Medical Director of Clinical Sciences, where she provided medical and scientific leadership for the development of clinical research programs. She also served as the company’s Medical Director, Clinical Sciences from 2005 until 2009 and as Associate Medical Director from 2003 until 2005.
Prior to her time at Boston Scientific, Katrin held managerial positions at several life sciences companies in California, including: Advanced Stent Technologies, Pulmonx and Quintiles/The Lewin Group. Katrin earned her medical degree at Ludwig Maximilian University Medical School in Munich, Germany, and performed her surgical residency at Martha Maria Hospital in Munich. She was awarded the National Institute of Health Postdoctoral Fellowship by the School of Public Health at the University of California at Berkeley. Katrin has authored numerous scientific and medical publications and presented at industry conferences and events around the world.
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer
Peter joined HeartWare in July 2012 as Chief Financial Officer with overall responsibility for the strategy and operations of the Company’s accounting and finance functions, as well as oversight of the Information Technology department. Peter has more than 25 years of financial management and public accounting experience, serving most recently as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Caliper Life Sciences prior to their acquisition by PerkinElmer in November 2011. Before that, Peter served as CFO of Zymark Corporation prior to the company’s merger with Caliper in 2003. Peter is a Certified Public Accountant in Massachusetts, and holds a degree from Bentley University.
Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Jim joined HeartWare in September 2007. He has overall responsibility for HeartWare’s sales, marketing and product management. Jim has over 19 years of sales and marketing experience in the medical device arena. Prior to joining HeartWare, he spent nine years in sales and marketing at Boston Scientific Corporation. Over this time he progressed from sales through product management until being appointed Director of Marketing in 2005. Before joining Boston Scientific, he spent five years in sales at Sherwood Davis & Geck a former Kendall HealthCare/Covidien company. Jim received his undergraduate degree in marketing from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Ageno School of Business at Golden Gate University, San Francisco.
Senior Vice President, Research & Development and Quality
Mark joined HeartWare in September 2013 as Vice President, Research and Development and has since been promoted to the position of Senior Vice President, R&D and Quality. Mark has overall responsibility for the Company’s quality system and plays an integral role in developing HeartWare’s technology pipeline as it continues to mature.
Prior to joining HeartWare, Mark spent 20 years at Boston Scientific Corporation, where he held numerous roles, most recently serving as the company’s Vice President of Cardiac Rhythm Vascular Research and Development. While at Boston Scientific, he also served as Director of Systems Engineering & Product Development Process, as well as Director of Design Engineering.
Mark began his career at Guidant Company (later acquired by Boston Scientific) as a product electrical engineer in 1993. During his tenure at Guidant, he advanced to hold positions as Electrical Design Engineer, System Design Engineer, Research and Development Engineering Manager and, ultimately, he served as Quality Assurance and Reliability Manager before the company was purchased in 2006.
Mark earned his MBA at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He also holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and biomedical engineering from North Dakota State University.
